An integral part of this industry happens to be our person of topic today- Mr Amitabh Bachchan. An excellent actor, orator, artist and poet. He is one of the most important people in Indian cinema and has contributed greatly to its progress and development over the years.
Amitabh Bachchan was born in 1942, at Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh to Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a well-known poet. His mother, Teji Bachchan, had a strong influence on his career due to her interest in theatre and film. This fueled his talent and love for acting and the theatre arts from a young age. He completed his further education in Delhi. He made is debut in 1969 in the film “Bhuvan Shome”. However, his journey toward success wasn’t all that easy. In the initial stages of his career, he had only two successful films and twelve flops. He auditioned at All India Radio but was rejected. Many filmmakers rejected him for being over 6 feet tall.
When he was on the verge of giving up, he finally got his break with the movie “Saat Hindustani”. He even won a national award for this movie. After two more years of struggle, he was given the lead roles in the movies “Anand” and “Zanjeer”. This was Bachchans Eureka Moment. He gained immense fame and recognition for his theatrical skills in these movies. He became well known all over the country for his acting. Amitabh is also best known for his role in the movie “Sholay”. He was steadily climbing the ladder of success. However, he faced a near-death experience while performing a stunt in the movie “Coolie”. His friends and family had given up on him. However, like a brave fighter, he recovered and continued his journey.
His next downfall was when he was at the age of 57, in the year 2000. He has lost almost everything he had. At this time, he decided to take up the TV show, “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. He also acted in a film, “Mohabattein”. These endeavours pushed him right toward the top of his ladder. Despite multiple rejections, failures and health issues, he kept going, he kept chasing his dream.
Today, Amitabh Bachchan is also known all over the country with the title “Big B”. He has millions of fans and admirers all over the world. He has been awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan as well.
